What makes life worthwhile
Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs shows us humans strive for self-actualization but there are multiple levels before reaching that top level. This is a good example when dealing with the journey to success because it can easily be related to humans and how they go about life and their journey up the hierarchy of needs. All humans strive to be at the top but not everyone is successful in getting there and these are the motives behind our actions.
Then you look at GDP and look at what counts towards GDP and what doesn't count, and begin to realize that what doesn't count is much more important to ourselves than we think. The part that doesn't count makes life worthwhile and counting the intangible is what really matters. The intangible things in life our what bring us happiness and help us reach our goal of getting to the top of Maslow's hierarchy of needs (self-actualization). It allows you to start counting the things that our more meaningful to you and will positively impact your life and once again lead you to become successful.
Success VS. Mastery
In the first Ted talks video I watched the topic was the difference between success and mastery which is a lot more eye opening than I originally thought it would be. It allowed me to look at success in a different way and help start to build my own definition of success. It talked about the point of the turning world and pursing excellence. Mastery is where you are and success is where you want to be. Once you get the grasp on that idea you begin to learn how little you know and how much more is required to actually complete your unfinished path. Near wind also has a significant impact on succeeding by doing what you do to meet the mountain in your sight that eventually will lead you to success. Mastery is completing but completing is never the end, and the end is success.
Drive to keep creating
When an individual is trying to succeed there are always going to be failures along the way, the difference is how you control them. Quitting seems to be a frequent outcome when you continue to fail and fail again, but a major part of succeeding is finding the motivation and inspiration to keep pushing and getting past the failures and looking at the much bigger picture that can be ahead. From this Ted talks video I have learned how to find the motivation and drive to keep creating until you reach success, and that in itself has helped me better create my own definition of success. The main thing that someone needs to understand is that on the journey to success, everyone gets lost, but it's the people who find their way back "home" that succeed later in life. "Home" being the thing/place you love more than you love yourself and you have that motivation and drive to be successful and reach your goal in life.
Secrets to success
Many things lead to an individuals success and I strongly believe that what someone puts into their strive for success that is what they will get in return. In one of the videos on Ted talks it quickly talks about the eight "secrets" to success that were gathered in a countless number of interviews over a long time span. I believe this is very influential in one's journey to success as well as discovering one's own definition of success itself. These eight elements are perfect examples of what needs to go in when your trying to succeed. I think it is okay to say that part of succeeding comes from these eight elements.
Defining elements to succeed:
Success is a "marathon not a sprint"
One of the Ted talks videos took on the motivational and psychological perspective and went on to explain that success is simply a marathon, not a sprint. I personally agree with this and think it's true when talking about success and finding what I believe the real definition is. On this marathon the way an individual acts significantly impacts their outcome of trying to succeed. The ultimate "key" to success as mentioned in this video is Grit. Grit can be defined by an individuals passion, perseverance, stamina and overall goal to work hard to make your ideal future your reality. By having this specific mentality going into your goal to succeed you must put your best attitude, ideas, and strong intuition and test it and be willing to fail just to start again.
